A. Elliott Holman, III, with his parents, Mr. & Mrs. Arthur Elliott Holman, Jr.

To mark the occasion and in celebration of Arthur Holman's 80th birthday, the Arthur Elliott Holman, Jr., Acquisition and Preservation Endowment has been permanently established by A. Elliott Holman, III, for the South Caroliniana Library. Proceeds from this endowment will be expended annually for new acquisitions as well as for the preservation of current holdings in areas of Mr. Holman's interests, such as the Episcopal Church, music and the arts, Anderson County, and other aspects of South Carolina history.

The first volume to be preserved with funds from this account was An Historical Account of the Protestant Episcopal Church in South Carolina, from the First Settlement of the Province, to the War of the Revolution. Written by Frederick Dalcho in 1820, this volume was presented to the University by former President, J. Rion McKissick.

The Holman family has a history of supporting the South Caroliniana Library, beginning with Mrs. Arthur Elliott Holman, who was a charter member of the University South Caroliniana Society when it was founded in 1936. Mr. and Mrs. Arthur E. Holman, Jr., are currently members of the Society. Mr. A. Elliott Holman, III, has continued his family's tradition by establishing this endowment to benefit students and researchers at the for generations to come.
