With a gift of $150,000, First Union will help create and operate the new First Union On-line Business Information Center, to be located in the Elliott White Springs Business Library of the College of Business Administration. The center will give students, faculty, and researchers access to information about the world of business through an electronic news service. Significant advantages of the service include same-day business information; full text of The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, The Financial Times, and other publications; comprehensive data on companies and industries; and current stock market information. The center's web-based service will help keep the academic community on the cutting edge of business trends and developments.
First Union's gift will strengthn business in South Carolina by strengthening the Business Library's already extensive collection of reference materials, periodicals, and specialized holdings in business and economics. In addition to its gift to the Business Library, First Union has contribted $100,000 toward fully funding a Carolina Scholar Award.
