The University of South Carolina's G. Ross Roy Collection is collaborating in research for the Scottish Chapbook Project. This project, under the direction of Professor Edward J. Cowan and based at Glasgow University's Department of Scottish History, plans to compile a master database of chapbooks (small pamphlets) that in eighteenth- and nineteenth-century Scotland were the chief popular reading experience. The project has been awarded initial funding by the British Academy. Professor G. Ross Roy of the University of South Carolina serves as Project Consultant, and the advisory board includes members from the University of Strathclyde, Glasgow University Library, the Mitchell Library, the National Library of Scotland, and the Scottish rare book trade. During its initial research stage, the links from this site provide access to the chapbook holdings of several of the most significant individual collections as well as fuller information and references about Scottish chapbooks.
