Summary

Topical files re art and collecting, galleries, education, exhibitions, catalogues, and works of art in various media. Includes files on baskets, calligraphy, cartoons, folk art, furniture, glass, knives, jewelry, quilts, murals, needlework, hotography, sculpture, silhouettes, silver, woodworking, W.P.A. Art Project, video art, Josiah Wedgewood exhibit, etc.

Murals file (Box 3) includes list of 16 WPA murals around S.C., including title, dimensions, meduim, artist, dates, and original cost, and 1954 publication, Sears Presents The Charleston Story in a Panarama of Murals by Halsey (8 pages), depicting series of historical panels painted by William Halsey for the Charleston Sears store.

Box 4 includes file, "WPA Art Project," re Works Projects Administration and the sometimes controversial murals created under the program. Box 5: re activities of Columbia Museum of Art (1940 to the 2000s); folder #7 includes "Vietnam Reflexes and Reflections," 26 Oct. 1987, a program honoring an exhibit of work by the Vietnam Veteran Arts Group.
