Manuscript, [ca. 1893], three-page typescript poem, "The Old Plantation Home," is signed W.H. Gibbes, Columbia, S.C., and bears the further notation, "Written about winter of 1893."

Columbia businessman Wade Hampton Gibbes (18371903) attended the United States Military Academy at West Point prior to the Civil War, participated in the firing on Fort Sumter, and after the war served at various times as treasurer of Richland County, S.C. and postmaster of Columbia.
