Letter, 24 November 1838, of M.N. Wall, Black Mingo, [Georgetown District, South Carolina], appeals to Gen. E.B. Wheeler, Marion C[ourt] H[ouse], South Carolina, concerning a fine imposed by order of court martial “for my nonatendant on the day before the generald muster,” arguing that “I can prove that I was out of the Beat and tried to get there but could not reach home untill that night….”
Wall further claims to have been “an officer of that company ever Since I came from florida and never was a defaulter before….”
