Letter, 15 Sept[ember] 1880, from Governor Tho[ma]s B. Jeter to Fourth Circuit Solicitor W.W. Sellers, Marion, South Carolina, referencing the duel that occurred near Bishopville, S.C., in 1880 between E.B.C. Cash (1823-1888) and William M. Shannon (1822-1880).

Gov. Jeter states that he was in receipt of Sellers’ communication of 13 September and was requiring Attorney General Youmans “to attend at Darlington C.H. on the 1st Monday in Oct. next, and to ‘appear for the State’ in the matter of the Cash Shannon dueling cases.”
