Two letters, 1820 and 1830, signed by Robert Y. Hayne (1791-1839) concern his subscription to the National Intelligencer newspaper and his request on 24 November 1820 that J.L. Coward, a representative of the Pension Office, “examine the enclosed and inform me wether the heirs of Col. Williams have any claim on the government.”
