	Manuscript, 21 November 1789, bill of sale for a “Negro man Named Smithfield” sold by Howell Edmonds, of Southampton County, Va., to William McMories, a resident of Fairfield County, S.C., for “Thirty pounds Lawful money.” As noted on the verso of the document, the slave was subsequently sold by McMories to John Jordan in 1790.
