Letter, 24 October 1834, William Gates to Brig. Gen. Roger Jones
Letter, 24 October 1834, of W[illia]m Gates (1788-1868), Fort Moultrie, to Brig. Gen. R[oger] Jones, Adjutant General, informs the Adjutant General of the death of Capt. H.W. Griswald, a member of the First Artillery, who "departed this life yesterday morning at Castle Pinckney."

Gates continues on to report that "in consequence of his and several other cases of Yellow Fever, which has appeared among the troops (5 in the last 18 or 20 days) I have ordered H Company 1st Art[iller]y to remove to this Post for a few weeks....The Surgeons of both Posts earnestly recommending to me to do so."
