Letter, 16 Sept[ember] 1837, of F[rancis] W[ilkinson] Pickens (1805-1869), Washington, to Frances L. Greene, Lanesborough, Mass., concerns a letter sent Miss Greene by Judge [Abel Parker] Upshur "on the subject of taking a situation in my family &c." "Since then (or rather before I knew he had written)," Pickens wrote, "I have met with a young lady here ready to go on with me, and under the very highest recommendations. Before any expectations may be created in your mind I write to inform you of the fact & regret that the Judge was put to the trouble of writing."
