| Letter, 2 October 1863, of M[illedge] L[uke] Bonham (1813-1890), Columbia, assigns Col. J[ames] W[ashington] Harrison (1819-1888) to "take immediate steps to establish a confidential chain of paid and reliable scouts to furnish the promptest information of the movements, conduct, and approach of the Enemy through the mountains from East Tennessee & North Carolina, so as to furnish me at this place and yourself as well as the officer commanding troops in the Mountain District." Penned on "State of South Carolina, Head Quarters" letterhead. |
