oral history logoThe Oral History Program at the South Caroliniana Library conducts, collects, and preserves interviews on all aspects of South Carolina history and culture. Our collections document the achievements and diversity of our state, tracing the changing face of South Carolina over more than seventy years' of vividly recorded memories, impressions and reflections from a wide range of narrators, drawn from all walks of life.

In addition to conducting and developing interview projects, we accept donations of interviews, and serve as a resource for researchers conducting their own oral history projects on South Carolina topics.

Oral History represents one of the newer departments at the Library. However, the format has been collected by SCL in both published and unpublished forms for decades. Visit the Oral History Finding Aids page for a small sample of resources available from SCL, University Libraries, and beyond.

NOTE: Other oral histories available at University Archives and South Carolina Political Collections.
