Netscape 7.0

What if I don't have Netscape 7.0?

Netscape 7.0 can be downloaded for free from the following site: http://channels.netscape.com/ns/browsers/download.jsp
It can take more than an hour to download if you have a dial up modem.

1.  Click on the "Free Download" button
2.  Save the setup file to your desktop
3. Double click to install the setup file, once your have downloaded it.
4. DO NOT MAKE NETSCAPE YOUR DEFAULT browser when you are installing it.

How do I configure Netscape to access the library databases?

Follow the steps below:
1. From the menu bar select Edit, then click on Preferences.

2. At the Preferences screen go down to the bottom and click the "Advanced" tab (right pointing triangle). Then click once on  "Proxies".

3. Go to the right side of the screen and select "Automatic Proxy Configuration URL" and type the following address in the white text box:
http://proxy.tcl.sc.edu:8080/tcl.sc.edu.pac (it should look like the one below).

4.  Click the RELOAD button.  Click OK.

You are now ready to access the library's subscription databases using the proxy server.  You will be prompted to enter your USERID (SSN) and your Password (lastname) at the authentication screen when you try to access one of the library's databases from the Electronic Index guide
