ACCESS INSTRUCTIONS

1.  You must be a registered USC COLUMBIA student, faculty or staff with a valid USCID.

2.  You MUST configure your web browser to use the library's proxy server. To do this step find the kind of modem you are using to connect to the internet.  Then click on the recommended browser  and follow the configuration directions:
 

--If you have a dial-up modem (your telephone line is used to connect to the internet) please click on one of the following Netscape browsers for the directions to access the Library's proxy server:  Netscape 4.7 and 4.8  STRONGLY RECOMMENDED for Windows and Macintosh users Netscape 7.0   This version is also recommended, but has some system requirements  you may want to check before downloading. AOL Users, please read! *********** INTERNET EXPLORER AND NETSCAPE 6 WILL NOT ACCESS the server USING A DIAL-UP MODEM.

3. Each time you start your connection to the library databases, you will be asked for your User Name (User Name = 9 digit SS#) and Password (Password= last name) by the Library's authentication program. You will only need to give this User Name and Password one time during each session.

EXAMPLE:

User Name:          123456789

Password:             smith

4.  Once your browser has been configured, go to the Electronic Indexes page (http://www.sc.edu/library/ei.html) to access the library resources.

To disconnect from proxy service
Close and restart your browser.
