University Libraries - Giving and Development

Thomas F. McNally, Dean of Libraries

Thank you for your interest in the University Libraries. Many outstanding initiatives are under way, and your support is critical to our growth. We are committed to preserving our heritage while moving forward to provide state-of-the-art resources for our faculty, students and international community of researchers.
Your interest is important to us and we thank you for your support.
Thomas F. McNally
Dean of Libraries

University of South Carolina Libraries hold the distinction of being the only member of the Association of Research Libraries (ARL) in the state of South Carolina. ARL libraries are characterized by the breadth and quality of their collections and services. You will find exceptional collections not only in our main library, the Thomas Cooper Library, but also in our special collections.

Acclaimed director Ken Burns' documentaries have drawn extensively from the Libraries’ collection of unique newsfilm, which is a part of our Moving Image Research Collections (MIRC). Holdings devoted to John Milton, F. Scott Fitzgerald, Ernest Hemingway, as well as science and natural History are among the impressive digital and special collections in our Ernest F. Hollings Special Collections Library. The history and culture of our state is well documented in the South Caroliniana Library and South Carolina Political Collections.

Gifts to the University Libraries fund the acquisition of new resources, subscriptions to digital resources, and the preservation of rare and historical materials. Online donations are a very effective way for you to have an immediate impact on the Libraries. Contributions may also take the form of in-kind gifts, such as books, manuscripts, papers, and other materials that will enhance our holdings.

Contributions of $1,000 or more annually will entitle you to recognition by the Libraries' Ex Libris Society, as well as complimentary memberships in the Thomas Cooper Society and the University South Caroliniana Society.
