Ravenel, Hal (b. 1940)
Oral History Transcript (pdf, 27 pages)
Hal Ravenel (b. 1940), brother to 1974 gubernatorial candidate Charles D. “Pug” Ravenel, reflects on his brother’s life and his role in that campaign, which ultimately saw the election of Republican James B. Edwards. The campaign of the charismatic Ravenel made superb use of television and particularly attracted young voters. In the end, the courts ruled that Ravenel was ineligible and runner-up Bryan Dorn lost to Edwards.
