Why are user services moving from South Caroliniana Library?
The library is preparing for future renovations that will enhance the safety and security of our irreplaceable collections.
How will operations at Caroliniana be affected by these changes?
All user services for the Caroliniana are provided in the Graniteville Reading Room, on the mezzanine level of Thomas Cooper Library. Hours of operation will still be Monday – Friday 8:30-5:00.
How can I request materials in the Caroliniana collection?
You must contact the reference staff at email@example.com or 803-777-3132 to request materials. If you do not receive a response within one business day, please call the reference desk. Requests should be submitted at least one business day in advance of your visit to allow delivery to the Caroliniana from offsite locations. Materials will be delivered to the Graniteville Reading Room, located on the mezzanine level of Thomas Cooper Library.
Are there restrictions on the materials I can access?
Due to the volume of some collections, there may be restrictions on the amount of materials that can be retrieved at one time. Staff will work with researchers to determine the best schedule on a case-by-case basis.
How long will Caroliniana’s user services and collections be located offsite?
While we don’t know the exact timeframe, we know it will be at least several years.
What renovations are planned?
Caroliniana is an historic building that dates back to 1840. The collections are housed largely in the wings that were added to the structure in 1927. It is time to upgrade the infrastructure that is vital to protecting the Caroliniana’s irreplaceable collections.
