Jeffrey Makala, Librarian for Instruction and Outreach in the Irvin Department of Rare Books and Special Collections, will speak on Friday, March 30, at noon in the Hollings Special Collections Library about how the American landscape has been imagined in printed books, and about his experiences curating an exhibition at the Columbia Museum of Art in Conjunction with their recent Hudson River School exhibition. He will show examples of American travel, exploration, and landscape printing, covering several centuries, from the department's collections. This talk is co-sponsored by the Friends of the Columbia Museum of Art and the Thomas Cooper Society.
