CTE: Moving Your Classroom Online: Tips to Maintain Quality and Interactivity

Center for Teaching Excellence, Thomas Cooper Library, Room 511
Feb 27, 2012 2:30 PM - 3:20 PM

Daniela Friedman, Assistant Professor, Health Promotion, Education and Behavior

Considering a move from the physical classroom to the virtual classroom, but don’t know how to include collaborative learning activities? In this workshop, Dr. Daniela Friedman will share her insights, experiences, and tips for teaching online: Collaboratively develop online social contracts with students. Use group work to build an online community. Structure weekly discussion posts where students need to respond not only to instructor questions but also to each other’s questions and responses (this can turn into dialogues that students engage in throughout the semester). Use YouTube and authorSTREAM for student presentations. Use Adobe Connect for live and recorded lectures with audio and video. Participants in this workshop will discuss a variety of strategies for maintaining high quality education and an interactive environment that will benefit students and instructors alike.
