New Head of Interlibrary Loan namedFeb 10, 2012 4:29 PM
We are pleased to announce that Amber Gibbs has accepted the position of head of the Interlibrary Loan Department for University Libraries. Amber is replacing Marna Hostetler who held the position for nine years prior to becoming Director of Thomas Cooper Library. Amber began her work for Thomas Cooper Library in 2004 as a graduate assistant in the Reference Department. She moved to the Interlibrary Loan Department as a student and then worked as a Library Technical Assistant while she completed her Master of Library and Information Science at USC. She was hired as Assistant Interlibrary Loan Librarian in 2008 and held that position until this year.
Amber speaks fluent Spanish and taught first grade in Tela, Honduras after graduating with her B.A. in English from Sewanee. She spent four months in Madrid as an English language tutor after receiving her MLIS. Amber was a competitive swimmer in college and continues to enjoy swimming. She is also an accomplished seamstress who created the winning entry in the 2010 Runaway Runway recycled fashion show with a dress made entirely of cards from the library's card catalog. Amber's current activity is planning her upcoming wedding. Amber is originally from Greenville, S.C., and we are happy that she has chosen to stay with us in Columbia.
