CTE: Integrative Learning is… Beyond and Within the ClassroomCenter for Teaching Excellence, Thomas Cooper Library, Room 511
Feb 17, 2012 3:35 PM - 4:25 PM
Jed Lyons, Faculty Director, Center for Teaching ExcellenceIntegrative learning involves a blending of within-the classroom activities with intentionally selected beyond-the-classroom experiences. It occurs when students reflect on the connections between their experiences and apply their knowledge in new contexts. This workshop focuses on incorporating beyond the classroom experiences in our courses. What kind of assignments can we create, and what kind of scaffolding can we provide to help students develop integrative learning skills? This workshop will explore these questions through allegory with the book Fish is Fish, a discussion of strategies that have been used successfully by USC faculty, and a sharing of perspectives of workshop participants.
