Scott Phinney has been named the new Head of Cataloging for University Libraries. Scott will begin his new duties on Tuesday, November 1, 2011 in the Thomas Cooper Library. Scott received his Master of Science in Library Science from the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill in 2005. He is currently seeking a Master of Music here at USC. His undergraduate degree in music is from Davidson College. Scott is currently the Music Cataloger for University Libraries, a job he has held since 2005. He previously worked as a cataloging graduate student in the UNC-Chapel Hill Libraries. Scott is a musician. He plays oboe, trombone, and hand bells, and he has performed with Davidson College and Columbia College musicians.
As Head of Cataloging, Scott will coordinate, plan, and manage the staff and daily operations of the Libraries’ Cataloging Department. He will lead the development and application of policy, workflows, and project management. He will be looked to for expertise in the use of metadata for digital projects.
