Effective teaching is a core value at the University of South Carolina and is essential for tenure and promotion. New faculty should seek and obtain whatever assistance is needed early on to be effective teachers. However, being a productive scholar as an effective researcher or a creative artist is also essential for tenure and promotion. Balance is, therefore, required. The Center for Teaching Excellence invites new tenure track faculty to join us for lunch, for brief presentations by Senior Vice Provost Christine Curtis and a recently tenured faculty member, and an interactive discussion of mechanisms faculty can use to achieve balance between effective teaching and productive scholarship.
