Research Rooms at the Library Annex

Apr 26, 2011 2:39 PM
Staff members at the Library Annex have recently set up two research reading rooms to accommodate visitors reviewing large sets of materials. Each room is equipped with a networked computer, a comfortable desk and chair, and bookshelves. The Library Annex provides the solution to overcrowding of the USC Libraries. The Annex is a storage facility from which library staff can pull materials for library users and deliver them to the Thomas Cooper Library or other campus library within a 24-hour period. However, when it comes to reviewing large runs of journals or multi-volume sets of books, it is good to know that you can go to the Annex to look at the items.

USC faculty, staff, and students, Thomas Cooper Society members, and USC Alumni Association members, who wish to consult large works may request items be held at one of the two Library Annex reading rooms. Users should call to reserve a room and must show upon arrival a valid university photo ID or other proof of affiliation with the University. It speeds up the process if a patron provides information for requested materials at least two hours prior to their arrival in order to have the materials ready for viewing. Please note that Library Annex materials cannot be checked out directly from the annex and must be used on-site. Non-university affiliates who wish to consult large works may also request items be held in one of the two Library Annex reading rooms.

For additional information see the Annex policies at The Library Annex is available for appointments Monday through Friday from 8:00am until 4:00pm. It is located at 750 Hinton Road near the South Carolina State Archives. The phone number is 803-896-0780. Nelson Rivera is the manager of the Annex. His email address is
