CTE Power Lunch for Graduate Students: Undergraduate Research Mentoring, 11:00am-1:00pm

Center for Teaching Excellence, Thomas Cooper Library, Room 511
Feb 8, 2011
Are you a graduate student interested in becoming a better research mentor? Do you have questions you would like answered or mentoring strategies to share? If yes, please participate in this session to discuss how to efficiently and effectively mentor undergraduate students in research settings. Topics will include expectations, communication, understanding, independence, diversity and ethics. This session will include sharing of best practices, review of selected case studies, and interactive discussions. Everyone can be a good mentor, but it may come more naturally to some than others. Mentoring does include learnable skills that can have a huge impact on the overall experience and the productivity of both you and the student you mentor. Experienced, new, and prospective mentors are encouraged to attend one of the sessions. A light lunch will be provided. Registration is required to participate in this Power Lunch. Please register for only one of the sessions by February 1, 2011, online at http://www.sc.edu/cte/workshops/research, by email cte@sc.edu, or phone 803-777-8322.
