Oct 6, 2010
The Institute for African American Research is pleased to invite you to a presentation by Dr. Sandra Young from the English Department at Columbia College. Through her study of archival research from the Paul Laurence Dunbar Collection, Young will discuss rare correspondence from friends and family to Dunbar's wife, Alice Moore, and explore how the demise of their marriage is reflected in the changing tone of Dunbar's poetry. The title of her presentation is "Coercion or Concern?: Letter Writing and the Martial Woes of Paul Laurence Dunbar and Alice Moore." Dr. Young is a graduate of USC's doctoral program in English. The English Language and Literatures Department and African American Studies are sponsoring Dr. Young's seminar with the Institute for African American Research at the University of South Carolina. This event will take place in the Ernest Hollings Special Collections Library and will begin at 3:30pm on Wednesday, October 6, 2010, and is free and open to the public.
