Interpreting Political Lives: Memoir and BiographyThomas Cooper Library East Gallery
Jul 1, 2009 - Sep 14, 2009
The stories of political lives and careers can be told in a variety of ways, which come from as many different angles as there are authors. Such works can be biography or autobiography, but they all serve to tell the often fascinating life stories of their subjects. This exhibit features biographies, memoirs, and other books by and about SCPC donors, together with materials from their collections. South Carolina Political Collections plays a key role in the development of many South Carolina-related biographies. Our collections have served as source material for many journalists and scholars writing on important political figures. For memoirs, whether the subject is writing the work himself or through a "ghostwriter," these collections provide a deep and rich mine of information for the author to draw upon. The final products can vary greatly — from a serious discussion of policies and principles to just plain good storytelling, or something in between.
