"Thank You for Your Service"

Ernest F. Hollings Special Collections Library

Did you know that before Richard Walker (1922 - 2003) served as Ambassador to South Korea he was a Mandarin Chinese interpreter in World War II? Had you heard that Jack Bass (b. 1934) joined the Navy before he became a journalist? You'll recall John West's (1922 - 2004) careers as South Carolina Governor and Ambassador to Saudi Arabia, but did you know that he served with Military Intelligence during World War II?

In honor of National Military Appreciation Month 2018, South Carolina Political Collections pays tribute to a wide selection of its donors whose patriotic service began in the military and continued into diverse political careers.
