Ernest F. Hollings Special Collections Library


To kick off the eclipse excitement, the Ernest F. Hollings Special Collections Library will be open 1 - 4 p.m. Saturday, August 19, 2017 for a special showing of exhibits and a gallery talk. Join us for this Open Gallery event. It's free and open to the public.

From "Fritz Hollings and the Exploration of Space"

Exhibits will include:

  • -- "Total Solar Eclipse: Highlights from The Robert B. Ariail Collection of Historical Astronomy," Irvin Department of Rare Books and Special Collections, Brittain Gallery. At 2 p.m., Michael Weisenburg, Irvin Department Reference and Instruction Librarian and curator of this exhibit, will give a gallery talk. He also will be on hand throughout the afternoon to answer questions. Weisenburg has published a blog about the eclipse-related material found in the Ariail Collection.
