South Caroliniana Library to temporarily relocate May 22 for building renovation

Renovation of the historic
1840 South Caroliniana Library
is expected to take
several years.

South Caroliniana Library staff will temporarily relocate user services due to upcoming renovations to the building. The Caroliniana will close for the move May 15 - 19 and collections may not be accessed during that time. Beginning May 22, staff will assist researchers in the Graniteville Room, located on the mezzanine level of Thomas Cooper Library. Caroliniana’s services will remain in this location for several years until the renovations are complete.

SCL Director Henry Fulmer says the staff is working hard to minimize disruptions for its researchers. “We look forward to continuing to serve our patrons in our temporary location as they delve into the Caroliniana’s rich collections on South Carolina’s history and culture,” he notes.

Collection materials should be requested one business day or more in advance, as most original collections are currently stored offsite.

“It is very beneficial for researchers to contact reference staff ahead of their visits,” says Fulmer. “In addition to retrieving offsite collections, our subject experts can consult with them to help maximize their research time.”

Researchers can consult the online catalog at http://library.sc.edu/catalog and contact reference staff at 803-777-3132 or sclref@mailbox.sc.edu before they visit.

Additional information on the move can be found at the library’s website at http://library.sc.edu/socar.
