Announcing the Acquisition of the Richard Layman Collection of John Dos Passos, with Lecture by Dr. Townsend Ludington

University Libraries has recently acquired the Richard Layman Collection of John Dos Passos, and a speaking event and reception to announce the acquisition will be held at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, February 28, 2018, in the Hollings Library.

The evening will include a lecture by Dr. Townsend Ludington, who will talk about Dos Passos, the American novelist and artist whose works include the novels Three Soldiers and the U.S.A. trilogy. Dr. Ludington is Distinguished Professor Emeritus of English at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and author of the biography John Dos Passos: A Twentieth Century Odyssey. His talk will be followed by a reception and the opportunity to see "The Duty of a Writer: John Dos Passos," the newest exhibit from the Irvin Department of Rare Books and Special Collections that features selected items from the new Layman Collection. These activities are free and open to the community, but reservations are suggested.
