Scope and Content

The William Gates Rich/David L. Rosmer Collection is comprised of approximately 1,600 jazz, gospel, and blues 78-rpm recordings, over 400 LP recordings, and hundreds of cassette and reel-to-reel tapes from the early 1900s through the 1960s.  Scarce recordings, such as Okeh’s 8000 series and the Victor V-38000 series, are numerous.  Many of the tape recordings were recorded on location in South Carolina.  Also in the collection are books, scores, sheet music, and dozens of periodical issues, including The Mississippi Rag, the International Association of Jazz Record Collectors Journal, and The Record Changer.  Many of the Rich/Rosmer materials have been added to the library’s Southern African-American Music Collection.
