Endangered species

This spot, created by the South Carolina Wildlife and Marine Resources Department, features endangered animals of South Carolina. Likely filmed in 1972, the scenes depict an alligator, peregrine falcon, pelicans, a cougar, and a red-cockaded woodpecker.

The South Carolina Department of Wildlife Films Collection was donated to MIRC by the Department of Natural Resources in 1999. It contains approximately 1,500 rolls of film shot between the 1950s and the 1980s. The footage consists mostly of local animal species and locations, and was used to create TV spots, educational films, and PSAs. The material in this collection is a vibrant record of a particular location at particular point in time, and will only become more significant as South Carolina landscapes and ecosystems continue to evolve.
