Flash (Card) Fiction Contest

Select a card (opens in a new window) | Submit Your Entry Form

Can an old library catalog card lead you to wax poetic? Write a song? Create a short story?

If so, select one of the twelve library catalog cards (opens in a new window) for your inspiration. Any part or aspect of the card can be used--even the whole thing. And the more creative the better. Flash pieces, as the name suggests, must be very short. In this case, you may use a maximum of 750 words.

Complete the form to submit your composition. All entries will be displayed on this site along with the card that inspired them. A committee will select some of the best to be a part of the Flash (Card) Fiction Reading this spring. One piece will be selected for a $50 grand prize, and other cash prizes may be awarded on the recommendation of the committee. All awards are sponsored by the Graduate English Association.

Deadline for submission is Friday, March 19, 2010.
