Thanks to Rare Books and Special Collections Librarians, Dr. Patrick Scott and Elizabeth Sudduth, for making this project possible. The project could also not have been completed without the work of Tony Branch of the Systems Department, and Kate Boyd, Santi Thompson (MLIS, 2008), and Bella Wenum (BA, 2009) from the Digital Activities Department. Burns Chapbook Collection The chapbooks were scanned on a bookedge Avision fb 6080E scanner, using Avision scanning software, and a on a flatbed Epson Expression 1000XL Photo scanner, using Silverfast scanning software. Santi Thompson and Bella Wenum scanned the images as color TIFFs at 24-bit and 300 ppi. From the TIFFs Wenum created high quality JPEGs and added the preservation metadata to the TIFF and JPEG images. The JPEG files were uploaded to CONTENTdm. The TIFFs will be maintained as the archival masters on a SAN server, backed-up to DVD and tape. Thompson and Wenum created the metadata for the collection. The metadata records follow the Western States Best Practices Dublin Core format and were uploaded as a tab delimited file at the same time as the images. Kate reviewed the collection and uploaded the images to the CONTENTdm database. Burns Manuscript Collection The manuscripts were photographed on a Nikon D-200 Digital Camera by Keith McGraw. Others were scanned on a bookedge Avision fb 6080E scanner, using Avision scanning software, and a on a flatbed Epson Expression 1000XL Photo scanner, using Silverfast scanning software.
