In 1994, the University Libraries were awarded a National Endowment for the Humanities Challenge Grant to strengthen and preserve its humanities collections. Thanks to the tireless efforts of the University Libraries community, the grant's goal was reached before its July 1998 deadline. As a result, the Libraries received a total of $425,000 in matching funds.
Proceeds from the Endowment will provide financial stability for acquiring materials in a variety of formats to support present and future humanities course work. The scope of the humanities collection will be expanded to include information which will better support course design, teaching, learning, and research data collection. Interdisciplinary, research-level, and Honors College materials are specifically targeted.
The Endowment will also support preservation of humanities materials, notably older, fragile, and increasingly valuable materials that are critical resources for students and scholars.
Donations to the NEH Grant Endowment are still being accepted. For information on how to contribute, please contact us.
