Mr. Kennedy visited the G. Ross Roy Collection of Burns, Burnsiana and Scottish Poetry at the University of South Carolina, and wished to support its work and future development through the establishment of this Endowment. The Burns Collection, acquired from Professor Roy in 1989, is now widely recognized as one of the best Burns collections in North America. It regularly attracts researchers from around the world. An additional gift by Mr. Kennedy allowed the library to purchase a rare early American edition of Burns's Poemschiefly in the Scottish Dialect (Wilmington, Delaware, 1804).
