The purpose of this Endowment is to purchase biographical materials to benefit the South Caroliniana Library, the Department of Rare Books and Special Collections, general reference collections, and film collections. Materials purchased may include new print publications and rare books as well as nonprint formats such as manuscripts, films, and video recordings.
Acquisitions include biographies of Noam Chomsky, Marcel Duchamp, Dian Fossey, James Joyce, Olinde Rodrigues, Jean-Paul Sartre, Frank Lloyd Wright, Edgar Allen Poe, Winston Churchill, Norbert Wiener, Franz Kafka, Pablo Picasso, Fritz Haber, Walt Whitman, Jean Genet, Mark Twain, Michel Foucault, Marie Curie, Shelby Foote, and complete reference works such as The Dictionary of Modern American Philosophers and The Dictionary of Nineteenth-Century British Philosophers.
