The William Foran Memorial Fund was established by an anonymous out-of-state researcher working at the South Caroliniana Library to honor long-time University of South Carolina history professor William A. Foran. The purpose of the Fund is to purchase materials relating to the Civil War and Reconstruction periods for the South Caroliniana Library.
William A. Foran
Students and peers were often awed by Professor Foran's scholarly command of his favorite period of history. His legendary Socratic style of teaching was recognized by the University in 1963 when he was presented the Russell Distinguished Teaching Award. Foran was a native New Yorker who received his undergraduate degree at the University of South Carolina and did graduate work at Johns Hopkins University and at Carolina.
Additional contributions are encouraged to perpetuate the memory of William Foran. For information, please contact us.
