Thank you for your interest in the University Libraries. Many outstanding initiatives are underway and your support is critical to our growth. We are committed to preserving our heritage while moving forward to provide state-of-the-art resources for our faculty, students, and international community of researchers.
The University of South Carolina in Columbia has eight libraries housing several prominent collections. The main library, Thomas Cooper, is "considered by most to be the best library between Chapel Hill, N.C., and Austin, Texas," according to travel guide Moon Handbooks. It ranks among the top-37 public university libraries in the nation.
Acclaimed director Ken Burns' documentary on World War II drew extensively from the University's Newsfilm Library. Holdings devoted to John Milton, F. Scott Fitzgerald, Ernest Hemingway and Kaye Gibbons are among Thomas Cooper's impressive digital and special collections.
Gifts to the University Libraries fund the acquisition of new resources, subscriptions to digital resources, and the preservation of rare and historical materials. Contributions may also take the form of in-kind gifts - books, manuscripts, papers, and other materials. Online donations are a very effective way for you to have an immediate impact on the Library.
Contributions of $1,000 or more annually will entitle you to a membership in the Libraries' Ex Libris Society with appropriate recognition, as well as complimentary memberships in the Thomas Cooper Society and the University South Caroliniana Society.
